Dogsledding turned out to be a little different than I expected. We started off fine. I got to stand up and control the sled while a German lady sat in it. However, I experienced my third random cold-related fainting spell right after we started. I ended up having to be taken to the tent to wait for everyone to finish. It ended up not being too bad. I sat around the fire with about six other people, including a Saami man and his daughter. I didn't talk much, but it was interesting to listen to him talk about the issues that have arisen as a result of more Norwegians coming north and not be awaring of how they are affecting the reindeer herds.
Last night, we had Thai and then went on a "Northern Lights chasing adventure." There were ten of us in a van - Norwegian guide, my family, two Australians, one Dutch man, two from Singapore, and one English man. Probably the highlight of the trip was when we stopped to have cake and coffee. When she was handed the cake plate, the Australian woman turned to the Dutch man and said: "You - cake or death?". Everyone, except for my mother and brother, started cracking up. We ended up seeing the Lights at the last possible moment as we were heading back to the city.
We came back to find out that the Pens had been basically massacred by the Panthers, leading to one of my biggest WTF moments so far. But, being the person who tends to follow underachieving or below .500 teams, I'm not worried. Also, I would like to add that although I don't agree with Sid's actions during the game, I don't think he should be receiving the types of criticism that I was reading after the game. Yes, it was a bonehead move, but that alone didn't lose the game. Sometimes people do things in the heat of the moment that don't make any sense. I am reminded of the time that a few minutes into an inline hockey game, I got hit in the face by a stick and, being upset at the officiating crew (who had ties to the team we were playing), I left the game completely and never returned. Looking back, it was stupid, but it was a decision caused by how emotional I was at the time. So, because I've done stupid things in games (although I'm not being paid millions to do so), I don't believe it's fair to call for some of the things, such as having the captaincy removed, that people have suggested. As for the team overall, I guess I'm weird to be okay with a four game losing streak. Yes, losing to Florida was a huge disappointment. But when you have been following teams that have losing streaks in the double digits at times, four games no longer looks bad. Haha.
Well, that ends my rambling on that.
